John Hagee & Cornerstone Church

John Hagee is the founder and pastor of the 18,000 member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio Texas.  According to his website Hagee is the President and C.E.O. of Global Evangelism Television which telecasts his national radio and television ministry carried in America on 120 full power T.V. stations, 110 radio stations, three networks and can be seen weekly in over 92 million homes. In addition he has authored numerous books many of which he describes as “best sellers”. As you can see Hagee is nothing if not prolific.

With Hagee there are several areas of concern for the discerning Christian.  The first is his biblical qualification as a pastor.

On Cornerstones website they make the following claim  - We believe in the scripture as the inspired Word of God and that it is the complete revelation of God's will for mankind. We believe in the absolute authority of the scripture to govern the affairs of men.

Apparently this does not apply to Hagee himself

According to Personal Freedom Outreach during the mid 70’s while serving the Trinity Church in San Antonio, Hagee divorced his wife and married a member of his congregation, Diana Castro, the current Mrs. Hagee.  In a letter to the congregation Hagee reportedly admitted to immorality and resigned. Custody of his 2 children went to his ex wife.

That’s right, Mr. Ten Commandments himself, the guy who loves to preach the law to everyone who’ll listen, is himself guilty of committing adultery.

Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. 1Tim 1:7

If he actually believed in the “absolute authority of the scripture to govern the affairs of men” Hagee would understand that he is disqualified from holding any position of oversight in the church.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife….1Tim 3:2

Another issue is something that I have found is quite common among heretical preachers these days. On his television show and throughout his website Hagee refers to himself as Dr. John Hagee.  His degree however is not an earned doctorate but an honorary one from O.R.U.

This is dishonest and an insult to every person who’s put in the time and effort to actually earn a doctoral degree.  This is not Hagees only attempt to impress people with titles and the praise of men.

According to his website Hagee boasts that he was given the "Humanitarian of the Year" award by the San Antonio B'Nai B'Rith Council. It was the first time in the history of San Antonio that this award has been given to a gentile.

The dictionary defines humanitarian thusly -

1. One who is devoted to the promotion of human welfare and the advancement of social reforms; a philanthropist.
2. Content with right affections and actions toward man; ethical, as distinguished from religious; believing in the perfectibility of man's nature without supernatural aid.
3. One who denies the divinity of Christ, and believes him to have been merely human.

I am not claiming that Hagee actively denies the divinity of Christ. I only find it odd that a man claiming to be a Christian would even accept a humanitarian award much less boast about it.

Of course as with most of these heretics, money is a major, if not the major issue.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  1Tim 6:10

Shame! Shame! Shame!

……freely ye have received, freely give. Math 10:8

One other interesting tidbit I found was this, the Hagee family apparently just recently moved back into their home. They had moved out and were living in a rental home for 18 months due to toxic black mold.

In case you haven’t heard of this problem, black mold is a term commonly used to describe a particular form of mold or mildew which can result in serious health risk. This infamous mold is also known as Strachybotrys chartarum. It has been closely linked to the death of babies from respiratory bleeding, and as a contributing factor to illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis. According to the Center of Disease Control, this mold is responsible for over "100 cases of lung disorders".

Did you know that this is one of the curses God promises to send on those who will not listen to Him?

The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. Deut 28:22

God is speaking Mr. Hagee. Are you listening?
