Let not your heart be troubled.

Many Christians in America today are troubled in spirit because they’ve been convinced that it is up to them to “take back” America.

We’re told constantly by the leaders of the apostate church that God’s judgment will come upon this nation unless we vote for the right candidates.

Jerry Falwell said in a recent column;
…..a host of evangelical leaders – including me – have been steering a massive drive to enlist churchgoing voters who will go to the polls to "vote Christian" on Nov. 2. We have a significant stake in this election, and we have worked diligently and lawfully to propel pro-life, pro-traditional family lawmakers into office.

James Dobson has said;
”Your involvement in our nation's political process this year is critical, and I beg you to register and vote," Not in my lifetime has there been a presidential or a congressional election on which so much depended. At stake here is the next generation.”

Dr. Gary Cass, represents the Center for Reclaiming America, an organization affiliated with James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. He recently stated;
”if Christians do not get involved in this election, we can see the pro-family movement set back ten to twenty years due to the [anticipated] appointments to the Supreme Court."

All of these religious leaders have one thing in common. They have great confidence in the flesh and no confidence at all in God.

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. Jer 17:5

The apostate leaders of today’s religious establishment have placed their trust in man and in the political process. They claim that if only we elect righteous leaders, if only those righteous leaders will appoint righteous judges, if only those righteous judges will rule righteously, all will be well with America again.

The first thing you should ask yourself is this;

Has the spiritual and moral condition of this nation improved since these leaders first began their quest to “take back America”?

The United States elected it’s first supposedly Evangelical Christian in 1976 with the ascendancy of Jimmy Carter to the presidency. 1977 brought us James Dobson and his Focus on the Family organization. In 1979, Jerry Falwell founded the Moral Majority. In 1989 Pat Robertson gave us the Christian Coalition. Since that time we’ve been besieged by a plethora of religious organizations seeking to inject their morality in to the political process.

Where exactly has all this political action gotten us? Is America more moral now than it was in 1976? Has abortion ended? Has violent crime decreased? Have families been strengthened?

If you’re willing to be honest with yourself you’d have to answer with a resounding no. This nation is further than ever from God. Not only that, but we are more divided than ever along cultural and religious lines. This is where trust in man has gotten us.

I’ve got a radical solution to this dilemma. How about of we take a peek at what the Bible says.

If my people which are called by my name will register and vote……no wait a minute, that’s not right.

If my people which are called by my name will join together in political action groups…. No, that’s not it either.

If my people which are called by my name will elect a Christian president…….?

How about this;

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14

What’s the first thing God instructs His people to do? Look carefully because most people skip right over the first thing. Do you see it?

That’s right God says we must first HUMBLE OURSELVES

Now I know you don’t think that applies to you. Surely not. No that’s for that sinner sitting in the pew next to you. That’s for that family down the street. That’s for those people who only come to church a couple of times a year. That’s not for you.

You sound just like the Pharisee in Luke 18:11….I thank you God that I’m not a sinner like that guy over there!

Do you know why you need to humble yourself? Because you are so haughty you think you can know Gods will by what you see with your natural senses.

O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. Jer 10: 23

God says we don’t even know enough to direct our own steps. In our pride and self righteousness we think we know the steps we should take but we don’t have the first clue.

You have even bought into the lie that we the people elect our leaders.

.......that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. Daniel 4:17

God rules in the kingdoms of men. He sets up kings and presidents.  The scripture says God gives kingdoms unto the basest (lowest) of men. You just think you decide who the president will be. God decides. He is sovereign, not you and not me.

After God decides who our leaders will be He also decides how they will rule. God can make a wicked king rule righteously or he can make a righteous king rule wickedly.  You don’t believe me do you?

 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Prov 21:1

God turns the heart of the king whatever way He wills. Now what criteria do you suppose God uses to decide how a king will rule? How about this…..

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 1Chron 7:14

Our responsibility is to humble ourselves, pray, seek Gods face, and turn from our wicked ways. That includes our wicked trust in men and the political process.

Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world but the leaders of today’s apostate church have brought God’s people into bondage with their dreams of a fleshly kingdom. Men like Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, and all the others have abandoned their duty to the kingdom of God. They’ve exchanged it for a kingdom of power and influence in this world.  That is the only kingdom they care about.

These men are just like the apostate religious leaders of Jesus day who cared more about their positions than they did the truth. They crucified Jesus because they were afraid that if he continued to gain disciples, Rome would come and take away their power and influence.

What we are seeing today was prophesied almost 2,000years ago.

…..I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Rev 17:3

The woman is described as the mother of harlots. She represents the apostate church. Not just a particular denomination, but all apostate religion. The beast is the government of the nations.

The church in America thinks it can harness the power of government for the betterment of society. The harlot church will ride the government beast straight into tribulation. Ultimately the beast will turn on the harlot and destroy her. But for now the leaders of the apostasy are riding high.

Don’t be deceived by these people and their promises of a grand Christian society. It will never happen. This world will wax worse and worse until Christ physically returns to establish his 1,000 year reign.

Before you go to the voting booth next week, humble yourself and pray. Seek God’s face. Repent of your pride and arrogance. Ask God who you should vote for. Ask God if you should even vote. Then obey God.
